Grilled Cheese Society is an exciting restaurant concept from Nextbite brands. We source amazing ingredients for our dishes, and we love to experiment with new flavor combinations. We operate out of a cloud kitchen, which means we don’t have a physical dining room space. Our food is only available via delivery. This allows us to focus solely on the quality of your food and make sure it’s delivered to your door hot and fresh, every single time. 

The theme of Grilled Cheese Society is inspired by the roaring ’20s. We invite you into our secret society, where the only requirement is that you love amazing food. The names of our sandwiches are clever nods to important cultural touchstones from this era. Our theme is our attention grabber, but our crave-worthy food keeps our customers coming back again and again.

There are so many amazing reasons we’re proud to call San Diego home. There’s culture, amazing food, great entertainment, and beautiful beaches. But our very favorite thing about San Diego is the people. San Diego is a wonderful, diverse community, and we’re inspired by all the amazing people and cultures that live here. 

Having a location in San Diego allows us to source the freshest ingredients for our food. San Diego produces pounds and pounds of amazing fresh produce every year, like avocados, oranges, lemons, limes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, and more. In fact, 40% of all of California’s avocados come from San Diego county. We love sourcing ingredients locally, and we hope you can taste the freshness in our food. 

San Diego’s proximity to the beach also provides the community with tons of great seafood (hello, clam chowder). San Diego’s beaches are world-renowned for their beauty, and we know San Diego locals love spending time outdoors, whether that’s at the beach, on a hike, or at the racetrack. Our food is designed to be convenient and portable, so it’s perfect for fast-paced, busy lifestyles.

Why We Love Grilled Cheese

You might be asking yourself: what’s so special about grilled cheese? It’s just a sandwich. Well, we here at Grilled Cheese Society believe it can be more than that. 

So many people have wonderful memories associated with eating grilled cheeses, whether that’s from childhood or those college years when it was the only thing you could figure out how to make. We believe that grilled cheese sandwiches are the ultimate comfort food, and we wanted to take that concept and elevate it.

The history of the grilled cheese sandwich is actually really interesting. Cultures around the world have been making hot sandwiches with cheese for generations, but the idea of the grilled cheese sandwich in America didn’t really take off until the early 1900s when Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented the bread slicer, and James L. Kraft invented processed cheese, making both of these products cheap and readily available for the first time.

During the Great Depression, open-faced cheese sandwiches grew in popularity and were known as “cheese dreams.” Cheese dreams often included ham, bacon, eggs, cayenne pepper, mustard, or mayonnaise. As much as we hate to admit it, we’re not the first ones to have the idea of elevated grilled cheese sandwiches. 

Nowadays, Americans can’t get enough of cheese, so much so that some have even wondered if cheese is addictive. Melted cheese is one of the all-time best comfort foods, which is why we believed that grilled cheese sandwiches had so much more potential than just a plain food for kids. We want our food to make our customers smile and feel warm, like we’re giving them a great big hug. 

Our Menu

When customers look at our menu, we want to make sure they notice the wide variety of options we provide and the inventive flavor combinations we use in our sandwiches. Our menu is constructed to make sure that every member of your family or friend group will be able to find something they love. 

Our Sandwiches

One of our most popular sandwiches is the Bambino, which is served with two fried eggs, bacon, melted American cheese, tomato, and Society Sauce on white bread. We love brunch, and we wanted to create a dish that combined the best elements of breakfast with a melty grilled cheese.

The Blondie & Dagwood, complete with roasted turkey, bacon, muenster cheese, blue cheese crumbles, avocado spread, and Society Sauce on wheat bread, is amazing for fans of blue cheese and bacon (honestly, who isn’t?). 

If you’re a mac and cheese lover, you have to try The Gold Standard, mac & cheese with diced bacon on white bread. You’ll never have to decide between these two cheesy comfort classics again.

Taking inspiration from the popular Tex-Mex cuisine of Southern California, we have Del Rio Caliente, made with chorizo, queso fresco, pepper jack cheese, roasted jalapeños, poblano peppers, red peppers, and Society Sauce on wheat bread. This sandwich brings the perfect amount of spice and is balanced by the creamy melted cheese, creating a flavor sensation between two slices of bread.

Another crowd favorite is the King Kong, made with mushrooms sautéed in sambuca cream sauce, grilled onions, pepper jack cheese, American cheese, and Society Sauce on white bread. The sautéed mushrooms and onions give this sandwich a hearty feel that our customers love.

For fans of the classic grilled cheese, try the Classic Roosevelt, made with melted American cheese on white bread. This one is just like mama used to make (only better!)

For a grilled cheese that’s a little heartier,  order the Patty Andrews, with a hamburger patty, pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, sautéed mushrooms, and Society Sauce on wheat bread. Patty melts are a diner classic, but we’ve reinvented it by adding the onions and sautéed mushrooms, which brings this sandwich to new heights.

Last but certainly not least, we have the Shirley’s Temple, made with muenster cheese, avocado spread, tomato, and Society Sauce on multigrain bread. The fresh, creamy avocado pairs perfectly with the gooey cheese and juicy tomato.

You Can Even Build Your Own

If none of our signature sandwich creations jump out to you, we invite you to build your own from our menu of ingredients. Choose your bread (multigrain, wheat, white, or gluten-free) and your cheeses (American, muenster, pepper jack, and queso fresco). Then, customize with your choice of meats (bacon, chorizo, ham, and turkey) and veggies (grilled onions, sautéed mushrooms, tomato, and avocado spread). Finally, top it with our famous Society Sauce.

We’re also super proud of our delicious sides menu. Our signature offering is Ghost Fries, which are french fries topped with ghost pepper seasoning. If you’re not a fan of spice, we also offer Onion Rings, Sweet Potato Tots, and Mac and Cheese. 

Lastly, we recommend trying our amazing Mac and Cheese Bites, which are little balls of mac and cheese fried to perfection and served with dipping sauce. We have classic Mac and Cheese Bites, as well as Buffalo, and a Bleu Cheese and Bacon variety. And if you’re a soup lover, try dunking your sandwich in our Creamy Tomato or New England Clam Chowder.
